Marina Shafir was a one of the brightest talents in the world of MMA. She started competing as a Mixed Martial Artist in 2012 and transitioned into the world of pro wrestling, beginning her journey in the WWE. Shafir later made her presence felt in AEW, and she now has revealed the details of her current status with the company.

Marina Shafir alongside her cohort, Jessamyn Duke, signed with WWE in 2018 and was featured alongside Shayna Baszler. Shafir was later released from her contract in June 2021. The former MMA fighter would then journey to AEW, making her debut on AEW Dark in December 2021, in a losing effort to Kris Statlander.

There has been speculation regarding Marina Shafir’s current status with AEW. Marina appeared on Renee Paquette’s The Sessions podcast this week talking about her current schedule, and she mentioned that she did ink a deal with AEW.

“Before I got signed with AEW, I was doing indie shows here and there, but then the schedule just got crazy because then I got signed, and I was like, oh f*ck, I’m spending no time with my family, you know?,”

Marina Shafir also addressed Renee Paquette’s question on why the mega match between WWE’s and MMA’s four horsewomen was never discussed.

“There are egos at play. I learned that there are too many f*cking cooks in the kitchen sometimes in more ways than one.”

It is currently unknown for how many years Marina Shafir is under contract with AEW, or if that agreement precludes her from competing for other promotions. Marina Shafir’s first major match in the company came in June 2022 on an episode of AEW Dynamite where she lost to Thunder Rosa in a title match for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
