Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler have competed all over the world in various companies, further honing their skills. They are the ROH, IWGP and AAA Tag Team Champions, but have really done nothing of note in AEW for the past several months. In fact, their absence has led to a lot of criticism and Tony Khan finally decided to address FTR’s absence from AEW Full Gear.
Their time in AEW as of late has been met with a largely mixed reaction. FTR hasn’t wrestled in AEW for quite some time as a tag team, and that has not really changed either. In fact, fans can’t believe the team isn’t even competing at Full Gear.
While speaking during the AEW Full Gear media conference, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about FTR’s absence. Khan stated that while he loves FTR, there are simply too many good wrestlers to fit into just one event. In fact, Khan added that he wants to create more AEW and ROH content
Tony Khan also previously explained why FTR hasn’t been wrestling on AEW television much. While speaking to Comic Book, he expanded on the subject.
FTR have wrestled as singles. They have had some trios and, of course, have had a number of pay-per-view matches in that time, both in Ring of Honor and in AEW. But I think we could look to see them in tag action and maybe defending some of those tag team titles that they hold.
They hold three different tag team championships in companies that we all have affiliations with, across Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and Lucha Libre AAA. And certainly, I’ve been instrumental in organizing their bookings overseas and with Ring of Honor, where I also do the bookings.
FTR is also set to compete at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 next year, so they will still keep themselves busy no matter what. Only time will tell what the future holds for them in AEW, but Tony Khan has a very loaded locker room to handle right now. You may check out an updated AEW Full Gear lineup below.
