CM Punk made headlines a couple of months ago when he publicly fired shots at The Elite, Colt Cabana, and Hangman Page during the post All Out Media Scrum. This incident resulted in a backstage altercation where all parties were stripped of their respective titles and suspended.
Now that AEW has confirmed that The Elite will be returning at Full Gear, this raised more questions regarding CM Punk’s status with the company. Ace Steel, who was also involved in Brawl Out, was fired. There are reports that AEW is trying to buy out CM Punk’s contract.
When asked about Punk’s status while addressing the media ahead of Full Gear, Tony Khan said that he couldn’t comment on that, but appreciates all the backstage contributions CM Punk made to the company.
Near the end of the call, Tony Khan was asked if he knew that Punk would take shots at The Elite, Colt Cabana, and Hangman Page and why he didn’t stop him. To this, Khan said that he didn’t know what Punk was going to say and couldn’t comment beyond that.
He was sitting 2 feet away from me. I did not know what he was gonna say. I had Toni Storm, Keith Lee, Swerve coming to talk to me so I was engaged there.
Tony Khan’s comments regarding CM Punk’s AEW status almost confirms the speculations that Punk may be bought out of his contract. The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are set to make their return this Saturday against Death Triangle for the AEW Trios Championship.
