WrestleMania 39 is less than five months away, and it will be the first WrestleMania since WWE owner and WrestleMania creator Vince McMahon retired. Fans are looking forward to seeing how different it will be this time, as WWE appears to have big plans for its Hollywood show. With speculations of the return of John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock, it looks like WWE is aiming to bring back one, or all, of its bankable names.
That’s not to take away from the names that could be available to WWE in the months leading up to WrestleMania. CM Punk, who is now signed to AEW, has been mentioned in the conversation. As we previously covered, there are still issues to be settled between Punk and AEW.
Dave Meltzer claimed on Wrestling Observer Radio If Punk were available, one of the most anticipated matchups would undoubtedly be Punk vs. Steve Austin. Meltzer said that WWE and Austin are currently in discussions for a WrestleMania return.
It’s all hands on deck. They’ve got two nights of WrestleMania and there’s big money matches he (Austin) can do.
If recent reports of Triple H’s softer stance are to be believed, a CM Punk return to WWE could be in the cards. However, any such agreement would have to be financially and creatively viable for both parties. There is also considerable concern in WWE about the potential return of the man who was called a “cancer” by some in the AEW locker room. Of course, if a Punk return isn’t in the cards, there are plenty of other names Austin might confront.
Steve Austin faced Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 in his first bout in 19 years, and it seemed to have gone well for everyone involved. Let’s see how WWE surprises us next time around. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Ringside News.
