Shane McMahon was quietly released from WWE following a disastrous power trip backstage at the Royal Rumble 2022 premium live event. The “Best in the Word” was trending on Twitter during SmackDown this week as well.

This week’s edition of SmackDown featured two first round matches for the World Cup tournament. Santos Escobar defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in the first match. Braun Strowman made quick work of Jinder Mahal in the second bout.

Fans in attendance and watching at home got to see the World Cup trophy for the first time tonight on SmackDown. Many took to Twitter to react to the reveal. Of course, Shane McMahon became part of the discourse.

Some fans joked that Shane will come to hijack the tournament, a cheeky jab at the former WWE star’s disastrous last run with the company. Others noted how the trophy looked similar to the one Shane won in Saudi Arabia a couple of years ago.
