GUNTHER had a legendary run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE by holding the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. In fact, beating him seemed unfathomable until he was defeated by Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36. He was also part of Survivor Series 2019, where he lost in shocking fashion.
During the men’s elimination match at Survivor Series 2019, GUNTHER was part of the match, and he was shockingly eliminated within a matter of seconds. This led to a lot of backlash from fans, who felt it was a poor booking decision.
While speaking to Steve Fall on Ten Count, GUNTHER talked about his shocking loss. GUNTHER stated that he believes his loss at the event only added to his popularity.
“Yeah, that’s just how things go sometimes. There’s not much you can say. There was a decision that was made and you go along with it and try to make the best out of it. I don’t think it was negative… When I started doing my bit in that match and then getting eliminated early, I think that did something to me… I think it added to my popularity in that sense because a lot of people spoke about it. I think no harm was done and everybody needs to take a humbling experience here and there. So, I’m totally fine with it.”
GUNTHER also addressed rumors of him possibly squaring off against John Cena at WrestleMania 39. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for GUNTHER.
