Dustin Rhodes was one of the first big former WWE stars that AEW snatched up. The former Goldust reinvented himself once again and saw some great matches inside an AEW ring, but that time might be coming to an end.
Dustin Rhodes tweeted on October 12th that he was “heavy thinking” about the next step. On August 26th, Rhodes wrestled at AEW Rampage. He was unable to defeat Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Title.
Rhodes recently spoke with Sports Guys Talk Wrestling about his in-ring status and his mindset. His body is feeling good, and he’s ready to get back in the ring. That being said, Rhodes realizes time is not on his side.
“Knee is great. I’m feeling good. I’m ready to go back. I’ll be back very very soon, probably two weeks. Right now, I feel good. I am getting older and that kind of weighs on my mind a little bit.
When asked for more information about his knee and surgery, Rhodes stated, “A lot of cleanings, I’ve never had an ACL surgery. This is 14 surgeries altogether.” He then went on to remark that he just has a little less than a year left on his contract. He also stated that he will do his best to entertain as much as possible.
I was just feeling old because my knee is taking a little longer to recuperate. Now I’ve got it, it’s good to go. I’m getting older, they’re getting younger and faster. I know my time is short. I still have a year under contract, a little less than a year, and I’m gonna try to do the best I can and entertain as much as I can because I still love it and am pretty passionate about it, but it is a young man’s game, as everyone finds out.
Rhodes stated that even legends, including The Undertaker, Bret Hart, and Steve Austin, needed to recognize the reality that they are getting older and slowing down. When Rhodes will return to the ring is unknown. We’ll keep you updated, so stay tuned to Ringside News.
