WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia is still bringing in a lot of money, and the company puts priority into making those shows as big as they can. The card is meticulously constructed to give Saudi Arabia their money’s worth, but one troubling “report” about the show’s preparation needs to be addressed.
A Twitter account, that is getting some sort of traction online, called Xero News tweeted out, “As described at WWE It’s the token Muslim Match they have to do yearly.” This was to describe a match with Mustafa Ali or Mansoor on the Saudi Arabian shows.
Ringside News reached out to our sources in WWE and asked, “Have you ever heard this ‘token Muslim match’ description used ever?” The reply we received from one tenured member of the creative team was: “FAKE NEWS AND CLICKBAIT!”
It should be noted that our source within WWE has been in the room when WWE Crown Jewel was candidly discussed. If such an offensive phrase was ever used to describe a match on their Saudi Arabian show, our source would have heard it. No such phrase was ever used within the confines of WWE’s internal discussion.
That being said, WWE realizes how popular Mansoor is in Saudi Arabia, because that is his home country. It is also notable that he did not make a return to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this time around as a member of Maximum Male Models.
It is also worth noting that Xero News was discussing Mustafa Ali for the “US Title Open Challenge” that they were reporting for WWE Crown Jewel. As Ringside News exclusively reported, no such match ever existed on the card, and Seth Rollins was always planned to have the weekend off.
