Raven established an enormous reputation after winning the WWE Hardcore Championship in 2000. Raven immediately went for the winning record. The amount of times Raven held that title is a matter of debate, but he set the record straight.
WWE has seen many championships come and go. The Hardcore Championship, which featured regulations similar to those of the current WWE 24/7 Championship, is one title that many fans remember from the Attitude Era of WWE and the years that followed.
The “Hardcore” element of the title refers to the fact that it could be defended anywhere, at any time, and frequently involved using foreign objects. With WWE confirming Raven won the title 27 times, the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion holds the record for the most Hardcore Championship reigns in the organization’s history.
Raven did, however, clarify how many times he had won the Hardcore Championship during the course of its existence during a sign-it live with K & S WrestleFest.
“39-time. I counted them. At the time, after about 15 everybody was telling me, talking about how many they had. ‘I better keep count all these because I didn’t think that they would keep track of them. I ended up getting 39 and then, for some reason they have 27. So, I don’t know.”
However, the WWE 24/7 Title, which Dana Brooke still has, is only defended at house shows and has no record of who is in possession of the title any longer, essentially recycling the Hardcore title notion of pinfalls counting anywhere at any time.
Raven’s longest reign with the Hardcore Championship, which has been officially recognized, was 31 days in December 2000. Regarding the days as the Hardcore Champion, Raven is presently ranked sixth all-time, trailing only Steve Blackman and Rob Van Dam.
Raven only won the Hardcore Championship in the WWE; with most of his success coming from rival organizations like the now-defunct WCW and ECW, where he won the World Heavyweight Championship twice. For further updates, stay tuned to Ringside News.
