Fans were certainly happy to see Boom Boom back, but he didn’t manage to win in the end. They also believed this was a direct shot at CM Punk, who hates Cabana, and he made that very clear during the All Out media scrum.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the main reason why Colt Cabana was even brought back in the first place was to boost the morale of the AEW locker room.

Cabana appearing led to even more talk because people saw it as a shot at Punk or a vindication of the story that Cabana stopped being used in AEW due to Punk. Whatever it was, it was Tony Khan’s idea. We were told that this was more for the locker room than anything else, that having Cabana on the show and given a positive spotlight after months of being ostracized for reasons that had nothing to do with him was a dressing room morale booster since he had many friends there. As best we can tell, Cabana was only in for that one match but is still under contract to ROH, but is no longer ostracized and could be used again in some form.

Colt Cabana’s AEW Dynamite appearance was a one-off as well. Regardless, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the current ROH star now that he made such a return to television.
