Young Rock is an American television sitcom based on the life of professional wrestler and actor Dwayne Johnson. Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz recently discussed Young Rock, his time in WWE, and a variety of other topics.

In an interview with NBC Boston’s Steve Fall, Gewirtz claimed that he has never seen Vince McMahon get upset over wrestlers getting themselves over without WWE’s assistance, such as Zack Ryder’s Long Island Iced Z YouTube show. “I don’t know if Vince wasn’t feeling Zack Ryder at a certain point or in an episode,” he said.

I just think that has to do with whatever Vince’s personal opinion is of the character. I don’t think it was the, ‘How dare he use YouTube to get himself over when it wasn’t the machine that got him over, therefore he’s going to be punished.’ I never saw that. I never experienced that. If that was what was being felt by some people, that was never expressed to me, nor did I feel it myself.

He stated that he has no clue if Rock will attend Wrestlemania. However, he said that if Rock returns to WWE, his comeback has to be huge. He also emphasized how Rock always raises the bar high and that his followers expect the same.

“I have no idea. I really don’t. All I know is if and when Rock, Dwayne, you know, comes back to WWE, the bar he always sets, and wrote about it in the book, you see it in and all those projects, and Black Adam, which we just at a screening for, it’s like, the expectation level is so high, and this audience first mentality that is very, very real, it needs to match it, and it needs to be something gigantic, and something not just like, oh, that’s a nice attraction, or that’s a main event in any arena across the country kind of thing,” he said.

But like truly meaningful, impactful, ground shaking, paradigm shifting, gigantic you know. Whether or not that manifests itself in a WrestleMania main event, you know, the fan in me would love to see it if it’s the right circumstance and everything. But, I don’t know. He certainly has a lot of stuff going on between this gigantic movie coming out in October, and our Tales from the Territory show. Plus in February, oh, he’s not doing anything in February, so I got an internet report at one point saying ‘Oh, the Rock is not shooting any movies in February.’ Like no, I don’t know if he is or not, but he is launching with Dany (Garcia) a gigantic Football League. So that might take some time too because, you know, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, like no one at Seven Bucks is of the ilk of like, all right, it’s got my name on it. We’re not Krusty the Clown, like yep, put our logo on it and our face on it and let me know how it does.

Gewirtz stated that there would be big surprises and names on Young Rock in the near future. “Jeff Chiang and Jenn Carreras, as we’re sitting down, it’s essentially this big Q&A session where we’re asking Dwayne for stories. I go into these things going, ‘Well, I know every story’, and I don’t,” he said.

There is a major story and a major story that’s going to unfold this season that involves his grandmother and his parents that I had no idea about and nobody in the room did. We’re all like, ‘What? That happened?’ He said, ‘That absolutely happened. That’s serving as the major storyline for that era in 1985 and that season. So yeah, there are definitely going to be surprises from that perspective, and also, just like, you know, the fan in me just loves the surprises of who’s showing up this year and which wrestler is going to appear that hasn’t appeared in a previous season. I’ll just say that there are some major gigantic names in the world of WWE, both from the 80s and 90s, that have yet to appear on Young Rock in seasons one and two who are absolutely appearing in season three.

Becky Lynch, a current WWE star, is rumored to be on this season of “Young Rock.” For weeks, rumors circulated that she would play Cyndi Lauper in an episode set around 1985. Scott Fishman of TV Insider also strongly hinted at this. Let’s see what happens. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Ringside News.
