Shinsuke Nakamura is about to set a new precedent for WWE. He is closing in on an event where he will face Great Muta. He had some funny comments to make about the event when asked about his big match on New Year’s Day.
Nakamura is set to be at Pro Wrestling NOAH for their New Year’s 2023 show on January 1. As part of The Great Muta’s ongoing retirement tour, the former NJPW superstar will take on the legend. During an interview with Tokyo Sports, Nakamura discussed the upcoming fight, and he made a bold comparison.
Nakamura thanked the audience and his fans for the immense support that has led to this. He moreover states that this is a one-of-a-kind event that nobody has ever ventured into. In the end, he also dropped a very familiar phrase that AEW made famous.
“There were people in WWE who pushed me. It’s nothing short of a miracle. Of course, I wanted to do it. It was an area that no one had ever stepped into, or rather, it opened a door that no one had been able to pry open. Ha ha ha…It’s a real ‘Fоrbidden Dооr.”
When Muta decided to start his retirement tour in June, NOAH reportedly identified Nakamura as one of his opponents. There were early conflicts regarding the fight. On the other hand, NOAH bargained a solution with the new WWE leadership following Vince McMahon’s resignation on July 22nd.
Nakamura and the Great Muta have not had a one-on-one encounter since October 2008. Additionally, the announcement deviates from WWE’s custom. Prior to the news breaking, the WWE prohibited their talent from wrestling outside their company.
On January 23rd, Muta will compete in his final match in the 17,000-seat Yokohama Arena, dubbed “Great Muta Final ‘Bye-Bye.'” It is currently unknown whether Nakamura vs. Muta is an exception or a premonition of things to come for WWE. Nevertheless, it represents a change in course for the time being.
