On January 4th, 2023, Wrestle Kingdom 17 will be broadcast live from the Tokyo Dome. The highly anticipated match between Jay White and Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship will serve as the PPV’s main event. Additionally, a few AEW stars may also perform for the crowd.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that AEW stars might also appear at the event. Dave asserted that as of a few months ago AEW performers were scheduled to appear at the January 4th event.
“I know that as of a couple of months ago, that was the plan. It’s on a Wednesday night, the same night as Seattle, so it’s tough, but … so I don’t know who it would be, but i do know that there were guys planned for the show as of a couple of months ago.”
The New Japan Pro-Wrestling is responsible for producing Wrestle Kingdom 17. It will be the 32nd Tokyo Dome Show on January 4th and the 17th to be promoted as Wrestle Kingdom. Fans are undoubtedly ecstatic to see their favorite AEW stars at the event.
It should be noted, after months of building anticipation, AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling teamed up to jointly produce the historic Forbidden Door event. Elite performers like Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley were provided by AEW to NJPW over the years as well. The 2020 edition of Wrestle Kingdom featured Chris Jericho, the reigning AEW Champion, taking on Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Meanwhile, in addition to the main event, the pay-per-view will include a Fatal 4-Way Match between Taiji Ishimori, Hiromu Takahashi, El Desparado, and Master Wato for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. For the first time ever, the event will also feature an IWGP Women’s Championship match. Stay tuned to Ringside News for further updates.
