Chris Jericho has a lot of experience in the professional wrestling industry. Throughout his career, Jericho has competed in numerous companies all over the world. Since making his television debut for AEW in 2019, Jericho has been one of the regular stars, and he recently extended his contract with the company. It appears that Jim Cornette has something to say about that.
On his Jim Cornette Experience podcast, Jim shared his opinions on a variety of subjects. In it, Cornette also mentioned Chris Jericho, who recently agreed to a new contract with AEW under which he will hold the positions of producer and creative advisor.
Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette said that if he had to choose between Jericho and Jon Moxley, he would prefer to keep Moxley around because fans haven’t seen everything from The Death Rider. It should be noted that Jericho and Moxley are both AEW locker room veterans. They have both appeared on AEW’s inaugural pay-per-view in 2019, which marked their debuts in the wrestling industry and the organization.
“Yeah, and I said the same thing for Moxley [denying star power]. And that’s why I kept Moxley and thinking that hopefully that he would be able to do as instructed. Jericho at this point, though, he’s been there, we’ve seen it. I think if you were to keep [him] you can’t change Chris’ mind, he’s firmly stuck in 15 years ago WWF.
And he wants to be the guy and he’s trying to run everybody out of his way. But if you could control his personality, and you could send him home for a while with an injury or whatever, and let people miss him because he went away and bring him back as Chris Jericho, legendary wrestler.
He’s a babyface and he comes back and has a program with another top guy, that might work, but now he’s just been hanging around for so long and doing his stupid sh*t and people are tuning out in droves and he’s surrounded with job guys so he can be the star. And he ain’t getting anybody over, so I wouldn’t have a spot for him right now.”
Jericho and Moxley have both held the AEW World Championship since the first show. They have also competed in main events on pay-per-views, and can arguably be considered two of the most significant figures in the organization. However, if Jim Cornette had to pick just one, it would be Jon Moxley.
Despite Cornette preferring one over the other, Tony Khan has locked down both Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho for the foreseeable future. The pair just signed brand-new contracts with the company. Moxley, the reigning AEW World Champion, agreed to a contract that would keep him working until 2027 on October 8, 2022. Meanwhile, Jericho’s contract extension was announced on October 18th, shortly before the “Title Tuesday” edition of Dynamite. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more.
