CM Punk made his debut last year at AEW Rampage: The First Dance and instantly became one of their top stars. He worked with several top performers since then, especially against Adam Page and MJF. Despite his run with the company, it was plagued with injuries.

At AEW All Out, CM Punk beat Jon Moxley to become a 2-time AEW World Champion. Right after that, MJF came out and confronted Punk. A lot of things have happened since then, especially Punk relinquishing the title.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW had plans for Punk and MJF to feud in the main event, with more ‘classic promo battles’ planned prior to their title match.

“(Bryan) Danielson and (CM) Punk were back, and then (Kenny) Omega came back, and things did not jump back up immediately, but for Punk and Omega, they barely got their feet wet.

The hope was to revive Punk vs. MJF, and have the classic promo battles, plus all the great undercard action. I don’t think things would have been back to September 2021 no matter what, but they also didn’t have to be at that level to thrive as a company going forward.”

MJF is set to challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear on November 19th. As for CM Punk, his status in AEW is under question. We’ll have to see what happens to CM Punk in the end.
