Idris Elba and John Cena are two of the most admired individuals in WWE and Hollywood, respectively. Idris Elba has four Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor, while John is one of the best professional wrestlers of all time. Hold on to your seats, since they will now share the same screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Cena and Idris Elba will co-star in the upcoming film Heads of State. The film will be distributed by Amazon Studios. Ilya Naishuller, who helmed the terrific Bob Odenkirk action film Nobody, will direct the project.
During a competitive Zoom presentation in October 2020, Amazon picked the project. Peter Safran, who was named co-chair and co-CEO of DC Studios on Tuesday, and John Rickard are producing through The Safran Company. Plot details are being withheld.
The project, however, has been described as “Air Force One meets Midnight Run,” with the focus on a mismatched duo who are in over their heads in a high-stakes situation. The initial script was written by Harrison Query, the versatile writer who recently set up the horror project My Wife and I Bought a Ranch.
The most current draft was written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, the power duo that collaborated on the recently concluded Beverly Hills Cop reboot. Naishuller made a splash with Hardcore Henry, a Russian indie action movie presented in first-person POV. STX released it theatrically in the United States. Nobody, which was released in 2021 amid the pandemic, was a hit with audiences and critics alike.
Naishuller is represented by CAA, Inga Smith at IV Management, and Sloane Offer. WWE and cinema lovers must be ecstatic about this collaboration. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Ringside.
