WWE’s King of the Ring pay-per-view used to be a yearly tournament event where the company crowned royalty. They haven’t held that event since 2002, but that could change now.

Triple H gaining control of the company’s creative direction is likely to bring about a lot of changes. Fans have only seen the start of what’s to come.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE is discussing the idea of holding another King of the Ring pay-per-view event. They will also crown a female as Queen during that event.

There is talk of bringing back the King of the Ring tournament with a show that would be both King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring. King of the Ring was dropped as a PPV by Vince McMahon due to drawing weak numbers back in 2002. Today, with no need to have PPVs draw as separate buys, things like not putting on shows that didn’t draw, or having to do the shows in prime time since most of the money comes from the U.S., but now the money is guaranteed by Peacock, changes the dynamic of having the consistent 8 p.m. Eastern time start.

WWE doesn’t have to worry about individual pay-per-view buys now, so they can hold any event they like. It appears that King of the Ring is in the pipeline, something that a lot of fans will probably welcome with open arms.
