Curtis Axel, the son of Mr. Perfect, Curt Hennig, began his professional wrestling career in MLW before switching to WWE in 2008. He worked for the Stamford-based promotion for 13 years, during which time he twice took home the Tag Team and Intercontinental Championships. Legendary WCW wrestler Konnan has spoken out about his on-the-record feud with Curtis Axel.
Due to financial limitations, the business dismissed Axel from his contract in April 2020. WWE let him go once more a few months after he had returned as a backstage producer in April of last year. When a viewer questioned Konnan on Keepin’ It 100 about why Mr. Perfect’s son branded him a “washed-up dude,” Konnan discussed his actual beef with Axel.
What happened was when I was doing MLW, he was like in a tag team with somebody. I forgot who it was. And he had some other name [Curtis Axel]. So, I had said that he had no charisma, which he didn’t. And I didn’t see much of his dad’s talent in him, which I didn’t, and I wasn’t wrong because where is he right now? (…) And I think I might have tweeted it out or something so of course he was mad, so then he said that.
Konnan and Mr. Perfect frequently shared the ring while competing in WCW between 1997 and 2000. In July 1999, Konnan lost their final one-on-one match on WCW Thunder. Konnan also talked about how he ran into Sheamus of the WWE in a bar.
The same episode Keepin’ it 100 had Konnan talking about his friendship with Curtis Axel’s father. According to Konnan, Zelina Vega is an improvement for a leading SmackDown group. Check out the full interview below.
