Shawn Spears made his return to AEW this past Wednesday on Dynamite and competed alongside his former teammates from The Pinnacle. He last fought in a steel cage against Wardlow on AEW television in May. Spears recently spoke to the fans in his native nation about his absence over the past few months after the company’s AEW Rampage taping in Toronto, Ontario, ended.
According to Wrestling Inc., Spears explained to the Toronto audience that his mother’s untimely death was the reason for the extra time off. Before she passed away, Spears made sure she was the first to learn of his wife Cassie Lee’s pregnancy. Prior to his termination from television, Spears supported MJF in his conflict with Wardlow by acting as his lackey.
It would be interesting to observe how Spears and Wardlow interact now that he has reconnected with his old buddies. It is also unknown how MJF will respond to the fact that his previous stable has come together once again, ostensibly as a babyface group.
Even though MJF now has The Firm’s backing, he doesn’t even seem to be on the same page with that recently created crew of mercenaries. MJF has been battling with his identity as a “bad guy” in recent weeks.
Notably, Spears appeared to bring back a variation of his “Perfect 10” gimmick as part of his return this week. His involvement with that component of his persona began during his tenure as Tye Dillinger, a competitor in WWE NXT. Stay tuned to Ringside News for the latest news and updates.
