Saraya’s AEW will likely see her return to in-ring action, but WWE’s doctors never cleared her to compete. That isn’t to say the company didn’t try to get her back.
It was previously reported that a General Manager gig was offered to the former Paige, but she rejected the idea. She left WWE after they didn’t re-sign her, a move that shocked Triple H because his father-in-law didn’t lock her down.
Saraya confirmed that she talked to Triple H about a WWE return prior to inking a deal with AEW. While on Talk Is Jericho, Saraya spoke openly about the situation.
Hunter did reach out to me, and he wanted to talk to me. He thought it was my decision (to leave) because he wasn’t there at the time. He thought it was my decision to leave. ‘No, bro’ [laughs]. ‘It was Vince (McMahon) and Johnny (Laurinaitis).’ We got talking, but then I sat and talked to you guys, and I was like, man, I miss that side of wrestling where you can pitch your own ideas, and you can just have fun. I haven’t felt excited about wrestling in a very long time so the first day of being here, it was awesome. Everyone is so nice. It’s crazy just how different it can feel.
Ringside News asked around about the former Paige’s creative talks. We were told that, “there was nothing off the table in discussions about her. She couldn’t get cleared.”
WWE “discussed all options” with Saraya, but “nothing fit.” That led to the chain of events that we all witnessed as the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion signed a deal with Tony Khan’s company.
Saraya was reportedly cleared by AEW’s Dr. Sampson, but WWE’s doctors never gave her that clearance. Paige went on her own, without WWE’s instruction, and sought out her own medical clearance. Only time will tell what’s next for Saraya, but she will be doing it in AEW.
