Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels were supposed to have multiple matches in 2005, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Hogan decided to pop the news that he could only wrestle Michaels once, so that match ended up as we all know it today.
Shawn Michaels over-sold each move and pulled off a cartoon character performance in that match against Hulk Hogan. Many fans noticed how he was selling so much to put Hogan over, and another match never transpired.
During his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff brought up that SummerSlam 2005 match between Michaels and Hogan and how he lost respect for The Showstopper in the process.
“I lost all respect for Shawn Michaels. It was pretty clear. There was an issue between Hulk and Shawn Michaels. There was a lack of respect, I think, there, perhaps some jealousy on Shawn’s part that, ‘Here’s this Hulk Hogan. He’s still here. He’s still the guy.’ I don’t know. I wasn’t close to Shawn at that point.”
Eric Bischoff went on to say that Hulk Hogan knew the match with HBK wasn’t good. In fact, The Hulkster was a bit embarrassed by how it went down.
“He knew what was going on. He knew he was being embarrassed out there by Shawn and he knew it was intentional. He wasn’t angry. I even remember seeing him after the match because I went right to him. I don’t wanna say feelings were hurt – that’s not the right way to say it. I think he was just extremely disappointed because he knew it sucked.”
Eric Bischoff is never one to hold back his opinion. He made a living on controversy creating cash, and that isn’t going to change. Only time will tell if he re-inserts himself into the fold with another pro wrestling company, but things might be awkward the next time he’s in a room with Shawn Michaels.
