Jim Ross is a veteran in the pro wrestling world, as he made a name for himself as a commentator in WWE. He has delivered some of the most iconic moments in the history of pro wrestling.
Being a veteran, Jim Ross is well aware of how the pro wrestling world functions and how certain things in AEW can be perceived. Fans also largely agree with what he has to say as well.
Good ol’ JR worked as Executive Vice President of Talent Relations during his time in WWE, but that will not be the case in AEW. While speaking on his Grillin’ JR show, Ross made it clear that he has no interest in that role in AEW.
Not really interested, to be honest with you. If Tony Khan came to me and said, ‘Can you help me with this talent?’ I work with a lot of talent. I don’t ever go to TV and don’t have a conversation with The Acclaimed. Wardlow is another one. I have a small list. Darby Allin. There are a lot of these guys that I talk to at every TV. That’s one of the reasons that I go to TV on Wednesday even though I’m not broadcasting Dynamite. I get the opportunity, in a controlled environment, to some degree, to talk to these kids. Whether it be at catering or backstage or wherever it might be. I don’t have an office or a private locker room. None of that stuff. I’m a big fan of what we’re doing and I hope all these guys Tony has around him now are going to continue to do a good job, I’m sure they will, I’m sure they’ll try.”
Jim Ross also has no intentions of returning to WWE. We will have to wait and see how long Jim Ross will keep on working as a commentator in AEW. It’s probably for the best, because the pro wrestling company has enough backstage fights at this point that we can’t blame JR for not wanting that gig.
