WWE originally planned to become a TV-14 product at the beginning of the July 18, 2022 episode of Monday Night RAW. However, those plans were nixed shortly after Triple H’s creative takeover.
It was then reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE changed its plans as it did not want to upset advertisers following Vince McMahon’s departure from the company.
However, Andrew Zarian now has provided more information into WWE’s reason for wanting to go TV-14. Replying to a tweet about the “holy s**it” chants from last night’s episode of Monday Night RAW. Those chants were heavily censored, at least as much as they could.
“This was one of the reasons behind wanting to go TV-14.”
Based on his tweet, WWE wanted to go TV-14 due to the profane chants, as WWE is often forced to censor chants during live events. These chants however add to the atmosphere of the show.
