Saraya was left with no choice but to retire from in-ring competition in 2017 and that brought about a lot of changes in general. The former Paige remained relevant in other roles for years after that, but she never wrestled again. Now, that is set to change in AEW.
The first-ever NXT Women’s Champion left the company back in July after WWE decided not to renew her contract for some reason. She then made her All Elite Wrestling debut during ‘Dynamite: Grand Slam.
Prior to her debut, fans wondered whether she would end up returning to WWE somewhere down the line. Of course, that did not happen and there seems to be a good reason for that.
While speaking on her Twitch channel Saraya revealed that she and WWE didn’t have any discussions about her wrestling in the company. She stated that she did not bring it up with the company because she was released.
“We never had that discussion. I never had that discussion with WWE because they let me go. I’ve been working years to better myself and be healthier and stronger. Me, mentally, I never brought it up because I had this mental block. I want to be as safe as possible. I know what my body can do. Me and WWE never had that discussion about having a match.”
We will have to wait and see how AEW will be booking Saraya in the coming weeks. It is likely she will be squaring off against Britt Baker soon enough.
