Ludwig Kaiser made his WWE TV debut on NXT in 2018, under his real name, Marcel Barthel and later aligned himself with Giovanni Vinci and Alexander Wolfe. They were known as IMPERIUM alongside Gunther on NXT.
GUNTHER finally made his way to the US as part of the NXT roster as well. Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser made their main roster debut on Friday Night Smackdown earlier this year.
On this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, Sheamus squared off against GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship, in a rematch from that instant classic battle from Clash At The Castle.
The match ended in controversial fashion when Sheamus locked in a Cloverleaf on GUNTHER. However, Gunther tapped on the mat twice and this led to fans thinking Sheamus won. The end came after GUNTHER struck Sheamus with a shillelagh he received from Imperium stablemate Ludwig Kaiser. Kaiser took to Twitter and suggested that GUNTHERtapped the mat only twice, while a submission is only registered when there are at least three taps.
“Not only is it our responsibility to restore the honor of our sport, but also to educate fans and sports entertainers about our sport. 3x taps = submission Still your rightful Intercontinental Champion: [GUNTHER]
We will have to wait and see whether Sheamus will get another shot at GUNTHER’s title, as it is unlikely their feud is over just yet.
