Edge is widely regarded as one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. The WWE Hall of Famer has done it all in the WWE. He even returned from a serious neck injury to finish his career on his terms.
A few weeks, Edge announced that he plans to retire in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada next year in 2023. Ever since The Rated R Superstar made the announcement, there has been heavy speculation as to who the former WWE Champion should face in his retirement match.
During the latest episode of the Writing with Russo show, the former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo weighed in on who he believes should face Edge in his final WWE match.
“Let’s say Edge is at the point of retirement. He knows, he’s seeing these young guys come up, ‘It’s time for me to step aside,’ but Edge says, ‘You know what, I wanna go out in a match against the best. I don’t wanna start at the bottom. I want to take on the best guy on this roster as a man, just to prove something to myself.’ And have that match be Lashley.”
Russo also pointed out that this match could be similar to Ric Flair’s retirement match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24.
“Have Lashley come out and say, ‘I’m the best. Let him say, ‘It would be an honor.’ Don’t give me that wrestling trivial BS. Don’t give it to me, man. Let Lashley say, ‘Man, I was watching you during the Attitude Era. You were a role model. You inspired me. You want this one last opportunity? I’m gonna give it to you.’ It’s Shawn Michaels, almost, and Ric Flair.”
Lashley has been dominant ever since winning the United States Championship and could end up being the perfect opponent for Edge in his last WWE match.
