Tony Khan is trying to win Dave Meltzer’s Book of the Year Award for the fourth year in a row to prove himself as an established booker and match-maker in AEW. Having previously won the awards in 2019,20, and 21, Tony Khan has been heavily criticized recently for his booking decisions.
The several backstage issues within the company hasn’t helped his cause either. Add to that Triple H taking over creative from Vince McMahon has provided some stiff competition for Tony Khan.
The many surprises along with some incredible long-term storytelling help Khan win the awards previously, but with Triple making changes to WWE’s product, it won’t be easy for AEW’s CEO to retain the award.
Tony Khan recently admitted on the Busted Open Radio that he’s trying to win the Booker of the Year award.
“I’m gonna make a full-court press to get it, and I’m gonna let people know right now: There’s been a lot of build to a lot of this stuff. And, if people have been telling me there hasn’t, they’re completely full of sh**, or they’re just not paying attention.”
The build that Tony Khan is referring to is that many fans have criticized the AEW booker stating that matches seem to be thrown together at the last minute without any proper storytelling.
Only time will tell whether Tony Khan will win Dave Meltzer’s Booker of the Year award for the fourth consecutive time.
