AEW All Out had a lot to catch up on. With the CM Punk talk at the All Out Media Scrum to The Elite and Punk alongside Ace Steel getting involved in a fist fight caused changes to AEW Dynamite. The champions are stripped of their titles, and they crowned the new AEW Trios Champion during Dynamite. The show must go on, and plans are still in motion.
AEW set up a championship tournament to crown the new AEW Champion. The finals will take place at the Dynamite: Grand Slam event on September 21st. There they will crown a new AEW World Champion.
Fans saw the preliminary matches in the tournament this week when Bryan Danielson beat “Hangman” Adam Page. Chris Jericho will face Danielson next week, as The Wizard had a first-round bye. Next week’s Dynamite will see Jon Moxley face the winner of the Sammy Guevara vs. Darby Allin match from AEW Rampage. Click here for those full AEW Rampage spoilers.
MJF was the winner of the Casino Battle Royal at AEW All Out. He will receive a title opportunity, and Wrestling Observer Radio‘s Dave Meltzer said that the storyline will likely start in a fashion where Moxley faces MJF at AEW Full Gear in November.
Yeah, I got the impression that Moxley wins the tournament on September 21st, and they go to Moxley and MJF in November [Full Gear]. It is up to those two guys to deliver. They’re in a position where they have to come up with the right storyline…the show is riding on their back most likely.
MJF is guaranteed a title match and, with the war of words between Mox and MJF at the start of this week’s Dynamite, this match seems to be written in stone to happen down the line. The only question is if MJF will make that jump to WWE, as he said during his promo on AEW Dynamite this week.
