CM Punk debuted last year at AEW Rampage: The First Dance and instantly became one of their top stars. He worked with several top stars since then, especially against Adam Page.

The Second City Saint kicked off AEW Dynamite a couple of weeks ago with a promo. He called out Adam Page and offered a rematch to him for the title. However, Page never showed up, and CM Punk said that Hangman is more about “coward sh*t” than “cowboy sh*t.”

CM Punk’s promo on Adam Page was not part of the plans and was a shoot. This was seen as Punk going into business for himself and fans did not like it whatsoever. While speaking to Forbes, AEW President Tony Khan warned talent against going into business for themselves.

“It was actually us making a point to the wrestlers in an all-talent meeting last week, and I think this got taken out of context a bit,” Khan said. “I was saying to them and a number of people [who spoke at the meeting] were making a point….[to] all the wrestlers and TV talent that it does not serve us well if anybody goes into business for themselves.”

We will have to wait and see whether other AEW talent will heed Tony Khan’s warning or not. For the time being, the status quo in AEW will not be changing for a while.
