As seen on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, The Purveyor Of Violence faced CM Punk in an AEW World Title unification match. Moxley squashed Punk in under three minutes to become the undisputed AEW World Champion. Obviously, plenty of fans had their own take on this booking decision.

This call was met with a lot of backlash as fans felt it was simply unnecessary. With Triple H taking over WWE Creative, AEW President Tony Khan took notice of that fact.

Khan even said that Triple H taking over creative control is a good thing for wrestling fans. While speaking on Writing with Russo, Russo was asked if Tony Khan intentionally put the match on free TV to pop a rating and try to beat Triple H. Russo then criticized Khan for his knee-jerk reaction.

“When WCW was kicking our [WWE’s] backsides, we never booked that way. We worried about our own house. Because we knew that if we wrote a good, solid show every week, eventually they were going to tune in. I think it was a definite knee-jerk reaction. All the talk, all the positive talk right now is on the WWE, and a lot of negative talk on the side of AEW. It definitely feels like it was a knee-jerk reaction.

They went over a million viewers for the first time in a long time. I’ve always said this bro, you’ve got to be able to sustain that. If they’re back at 950 [thousand viewers] next week, then what did it accomplish?”

CM Punk will be challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title at AEW All Out as well. We will have to wait and see how the match turns out next time around.
