CM Punk is one of the top AEW stars, and that has been the case since his debut on AEW Rampage: The First Dance last year. However, he’s been going through a turbulent phase in the company. Freddie Prinze Jr. says that Punk’s behavior is responsible for his backstage heat in AEW. Now the Second City Savior is clearing the air.

Tony Khan said that CM Punk called Adam ‘Hangman’ Page out because of his unresolved anger issues. However, Punk has since denied being unhappy in the company. Many reports said that Punk went off-script during the promo.

The AEW World Champion spoke with Sports Illustrated to address the reports. He said that through the promo, he is simply trying to get more fans interested and sell more tickets to the show.

That’s what I’m here to do, make people want to see what happens next. I’m trying to sell tickets to the live events. That goes back to me saying Twitter isn’t [the] real world. Twitter is a bunch of people that don’t really care about your opinion. They want to find like-minded opinions that share their worldview. I’m trying to tell stories, sell tickets, and get people to tune in on Dynamite.
