Rey Mysterio is a true veteran in the world of professional wrestling, whose influence in the industry is far-reaching. He has done it all as far as being a professional wrestler is concerned.

He has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the industry and has a ton of respect from fans and peers alike. He has been wrestling since he was 14 and his contributions to the business cannot be understated.

While speaking with BT Sport’s Ariel Helwani, Rey Mysterio was asked about his ability to perform at the level he does at his current age. Mysterio then stated that there is no start and end date on his retirement.

“Yeah, it’s crazy. I’m surprised sometimes at how good I feel just overall with the amount of beatings I’ve taken, the amount of surgeries I’ve had. It’s a little bit over twelve surgeries on my left knee. Right one, knock on wood, is good and intact. Between scopes and cleaning it out and a stretched MCL/PCL, a little bit over twelve surgeries. Torn bicep, one surgery. Torn bicep here, my experience with this one is bad. They had to go back and cut me open two more times. My back, knock on wood as well, I’m good. My back has taken a lot of the toll, especially being my size. I’ve taken a beating, but for some reason, god is good with me and has taken care of my back, my neck. It’s just my knee that has been my biggest issue.

A date range to when he’s hanging it up: “It’s funny because they don’t prep you up now like they do for NFL players. For wrestling, I’ve always heard from others that they just go until they can’t anymore. There’s really no start and end date. You just run through it until you can’t or until you step away to do something else. For me, now that I’m getting closer to my fifties and I see my son wrestling, I tell myself that I want to go three more years and I don’t want to go past fifty. But then I remind myself, what if I feel good. Can you still go another year? As of right now, my date has always been to not go over fifty.

Rey Mysterio is currently feuding with Judgment Day on Monday Night RAW. It is likely he will team up with Edge and Beth Phoenix for a match at WWE Clash At The Castle as well. We’ll have to see how their feud will be booked in the coming weeks.
