Vince McMahon retired last month and Triple H was then made the head of Creative in WWE. This truly made fans happy, because they wanted this for many years. Ric Flair was also responsible for WWE having more scripted promos as well.
For several years in WWE, most Superstars had been handed a script that they have to remember and speak as part of their promos. A large section of the WWE Universe criticize scripted promos as they feel it restricts WWE Superstars.
While speaking on an AdFreeShows interview, former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz revealed that Ric Flair going off-script during a show at Madison Square Garden annoyed Vince McMahon and led to him banning unscripted promos.
“There might have been an incident in Madison Square Garden once when Ric Flair went off script that got Vince a little heated about what he had said and said, ‘Dammit, from then on, I need to know what every single talent is going to be saying going out there.’ That was in Madison Square Garden with lots of corporate sponsors and when he said [that he has made virgins bleed] there was, there was a noticeable shift in the amount of approval process growing from that point.”
Thankfully, WWE is no longer doing heavily scripted promos anymore now that Triple H is in charge of Creative. We’ll have to see what else WWE has in store for fans.
