Gunther used to be known as WALTER during his NXT UK days and had a history-making run as the NXT UK Champion. He lost the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36, shocking fans. Gunther also talked about his run in WWE so far, and things are going well.

Gunther finally made his way to the United States as part of the NXT roster, but that didn’t last long. Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser made their main roster debut on Friday Night Smackdown earlier this year and have been mainstays on the brand since then.

After becoming the Intercontinental Champion, Gunther has been booked very strongly as the champion. While speaking to WittyWhittier, Gunther stated that he always had the freedom to be himself in WWE and has been treated with respect.

“It’s been very good so far. I signed with the company in 2019 for NXT UK. I can’t complain. It’s been really good. Basically, from the person I’ve been before on the Independents, I’m still myself. I’ve always been treated with respect and always had the freedom to be myself, more or less. That’s the case still, to this day.”

Gunther also wants a storyline with Roman Reigns in the future. The former WALTER defended his Intercontinental title against Shinsuke Nakamura in a solid match on Smackdown last week, and he shows no signs of stopping. We’ll have to see what the future holds for Gunther.
