WWE expanded to the UK market with the introduction of NXT UK in June 2018. The brand launched followed the introduction of the NXT UK Championship, which was bestowed upon the winner of a 16-man tournament.
NXT UK is home to some of the best wrestlers in the United Kingdom. NXT UK stars such as Pete Dunne and Gunther (fka Walter) travelled to the other side of the pond and introduced themselves to the U.S. audience.
NXT UK, however, has mostly been overshadowed by its U.S. counterpart – despite holding its own in many ways. Dave Meltzer provided some interesting information on the ongoing situation with NXT UK in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
“There is a lot of uneasiness within the NXT UK crew. The next two sets of television tapings were canceled on 8/9. The reason given was that BT Sports Studios, where they tape, had to be used for football/soccer coverage. But as you can imagine with the talent how the reaction is, given you could tape somewhere else and shutting down tapings is never a good sign. Nobody really has been told anything.”
Several NXT UK superstars are reportedly preparing for a jump to the U.S. as well. It was not noted how long they are planned, but this will be a “stint” in NXT 2.0. Keep reading Ringside News for more.
