Vince McMahon retired last month and Triple H was then appointed as the head of Creative in WWE. This was truly a miracle for many fans, who had hoped for this change for years. Vince McMahon also never explained why he banned certain words.
Under Vince McMahon’s rule, there were quite a few modern pro wrestling words that were banned. This included the word ‘wrestler’ as well as the ‘hospital.’ Fans were always puzzled by this as well.
While speaking to Smack Talk, former WWE star Dutch Mantell talked about Vince McMahon’s pet peeves and his contempt for certain words. Mantell stated that McMahon never explained why he banned certain words on air.
“Why did Vince insist on not using the word wrestler or hospital? Nobody’s ever given a reason why he would do that. Wasn’t it because he didn’t want it on TV correct? He didn’t want those words.
Basically, when I was there, I couldn’t even get a meeting with him. So I never stood in on a creative session, and after a while, I didn’t want to sit in on a creative session with him. All you had was a bunch of writers from The Ithica, New York Times, Daily Journal, Gazette Sports Pages who had only seen wrestling off USA Network and maybe WrestleMania. They had no idea even how wrestling works, never even had an idea how the stories worked. But that’s what he wanted.”
WWE has also lifted the ban on several words recently, thanks to Triple H. Fans and pro wrestlers alike couldn’t be happier with this surprising turn of events. We’ll have to see what WWE has planned for fans next.
