CM Punk made his debut last year at AEW Rampage: The First Dance and since then, he has become one of the mainstays of AEW programming. Fans never thought he would ever come back to pro wrestling after being on a 7-year hiatus.

The Second City Saint stated on numerous occasions that he only came back to pro wrestling because he saw just how passionate AEW was about bringing change in pro wrestling. Now he is in AEW as their injured World Champion.

While speaking to The Hashtag Show, CM Punk asked for his thoughts on the current pro wrestling landscape. Punk stated that he believes pro wrestling is thriving thanks to AEW.

“It depends on your perspective. It depends on how grumpy I am that day. You can go either way. You can say that, ‘Oh man, wrestling’s dying.’ Or you can say ‘Well look at it, it’s thriving.’” For the first time there’s a second company that’s viable and I’m not gonna say it’s a viable threat.

It’s just a viable, healthy company. A second place where men and women can get paid to wrestle in ring on television. I know there’s people that think dynamite is the greatest thing in the world. There’s people that think dynamite isn’t good. People that think it’s, somewhere in the middle, it could be better.  But because we’re having that conversation, I supposed pro wrestling is thriving.”

There is also a possible good sign that CM Punk is recovering from his injury. It remains to be seen whether Punk will be able to make it back in time for AEW All Out.
