Aiden English had a nice run in WWE, and he saw the world as part of that roster. The opera singer gimmick worked well aside Rusev as “Rusev Day” went viral before Vince McMahon squashed it with terrible booking. English spent some time on commentary before his WWE release, and now he is stepping away from the ring.
Now going as Matthew Rehwoldt, he took some indie bookings. The passion for commentary is really where he wants to be.
English is in love with the broadcasting side of the pro wrestling business, and he will make that his station. He dropped two tweets to inform fans that he will not take any more bookings to take bumps anymore, because he just wants to use his gift of gab.
So here you go: I will no longer be taking bookings to wrestle going forward. I’ve always been most at home with a mic in front of me and am in love with the broadcast side of the biz. I’m not sure I feel I belong in the ring anymore and this year has taught me that.
But I love what I’m doing now and am still technically a free agent so if you have a company/promotion that needs an entertaining and experienced voice on the mic hit me up! All in addition to continuing to explore esports/gaming, VO, and content! I DO ALL THE THINGS!
We’ll have to see where this decision lands Matthew Rehwoldt, because he is really good on commentary. Say what you will about Vince McMahon, but he whipped the commentary team into shape when he had their ear. Only time will tell if Matthew Rehwoldt gets an invitation to make a return to WWE, because with Triple H in charge, he might remember those 205 Live days fondly and want Aiden English back in the fold.
