Gunther had a run of a lifetime in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE by holding the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He would drop the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36. Now that WALTER changed his name to Gunther after a main roster call-up, he also wants a piece of John Cena.
Gunther eventually found his way to the United States as part of the NXT roster as well. Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser made their main roster debut on Friday Night Smackdown earlier this year.
The Austrian giant also won the Intercontinental Championship back in June. While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Gunther made it clear that he really wants a match with John Cena.
“I am going to give this title the prestige it needs and make it the greatest prize in wrestling. I would like to wrestle John Cena and anyone else who is considered elite. I didn’t come here to be mediocre. I came here to be in the ring with the best.”
Gunther also stated that he outgrew NXT UK. We will have to wait and see whether Gunter will get an opportunity to square off against John Cena in the future or not. Fans would love to see it happen.
