The drastic change in character for Roman Reigns over the years has been well documented. He went from being an utterly dull babyface to one of the most compelling heels in WWE. He also isn’t a stranger when it comes to accolades in the company, and getting booed by fans isn’t a foreign concept for him either.
Roman Reigns was an eyesore for many when he was a babyface, many fans of pro wrestling agree with this notion. This was especially true after he won the 2015 Royal Rumble match.
While speaking with Renee Paquette on The Sessions at Starrcast, Bryan Danielson explained that at the time of the 2015 Royal Rumble, he was coming back from a neck injury. He stated that he warned WWE that his quick elimination after his return was going to negatively affect Reigns.
So I knew, and I had just come back from neck surgery. When they told me what I was doing in the 2015 Royal Rumble and that I was only going to be in there for a few minutes, I said to them ‘I think this is a bad idea. This isn’t necessarily great for Roman.
In the end, event The Rock couldn’t get the Royal Rumble crowd to cheer for his cousin. It took Roman Reigns years before he became the dominant heel that he is today. We’ll have to wait and see how long he will remain the Undisputed Universal Champion. If anything, we know that Drew McIntyre is his next opponent at Clash at the Castle next month.
