Jay Lethal became a part of wrestling history last night. He teamed with Jeff Jarrett to take on Andrade El Idolo and Ric Flair in what will go down as Ric’s final wrestling match. Flair took an enormous beating during the bout, walking out bloodied and exhausted, but a winner one last time. Even his opponents were concerned for his well-being heading into the contest.

Jay Lethal recently opened up about his thoughts before the match with ESPN. Lethal said he was most concerned about Flair doing a blade job in the ring. He wasn’t sure how much The Nature Boy would bleed.

Jay said Ric Flair didn’t give the other wrestlers much info about how the match would play out beforehand. He had a general idea, but the blood was out of everybody’s hands. Lethal was concerned for Flair.

“That’s the unknown variability. I hate to give too much away in wrestling, but Ric, he likes to do what’s called walking and talking. There isn’t a lot that’s planned. But I can foresee how a lot of the moves will go. The only thing I can’t foresee is how much he will bleed, is it controllable? Was it too much? It was out of our hands.”

Lethal said he told Flair that he loved him after the match. Jay said Ric started crying and thanked him. It was an emotional night for all involved.

Many fans have said that Ric Flair’s Last Match was difficult to watch. Whether viewers loved it or cringed over it, Flair went out on his terms. Fortunately, Jay Lethal didn’t have to worry about Ric bleeding too much for long.
