Bayley returned to WWE at this year’s SummerSlam, and she was also joined by Dakota Kai & Io Shirai. The trio interrupted Bianca Belair’s victory celebration after she successfully defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch. A lot of things happened behind the scenes that led to these unexpected returns.
Sean Ross reported behind Fightful’s paywall that Bayley has spent weeks preparing for her comeback to the ring at the WWE Performance Center and Flatbacks. The talent backstage already knew she would return.
Many people in the company anticipated Triple H would make an effort to bring back Dakota Kai. It was also noted that she had got several main roster looks and many writers were baffled when she wasn’t included in last year’s draft pools. Kai herself was unaware of her creative plans moving forward. Several other promotions including AEW had interest in her, it is uncertain why she didn’t make a move.
As for Io Shirai her contract was set to expire soon and NXT had no creative plans for her after her injury. With her addition to the main roster now appears she singed a new contract with WWE.
Io Shirai’s contract was set to expire soon, and there had been no creative plans for her in NXT after her injury. WWE officials couldn’t confirm a new contract has been signed beyond saying “it appears so.”
Dakota Kai was let go from her NXT contract back in April. Many fans expected her to appear in AEW after her 30-day non-compete expired. Back then her main roster call-up was rejected by Vince McMahon, but it seems Triple H had different plans.
