Road Dogg spent years as a producer and writer in the company where he first became famous. He was a steady backstage presence for WWE for over a decade. After that run, he worked in NXT as a coach, producer, and mentor for the company’s developmental talent.
After he was released by WWE earlier this year, Road Dogg took to the internet to start sharing his opinions on today’s pro wrestling. Many have accused him of trying to gain favor with either AEW or WWE to try and land a job. That isn’t far from the truth.
Road Dogg recently talked about his situation on Busted Open Radio. He said he’s not retired, he’s unemployed. He’d be happy to go back to NXT or to wind up with AEW.
“For a while there, it was hands-off and I could write the SmackDown I wanted to write, with help, of course. Then, it got back to the old corporate ways. I would love to go back to NXT. I don’t think I want to go to the main roster.
I would love to go somewhere where I have something to offer. What I have to offer is making the television show sweet. I got a couple of ideas about wrestling. I feel like WWE has that. They have everything I have to offer. I don’t know if they’d hire me back. Of course, I’d love to go back to NXT. It’s really cool down there. Shawn [Michaels] and a couple of writers I worked with on SmackDown, got a great rapport with those guys. I don’t know if I’m ready to do the old Windsor knot and fit back into the suits I bought.
I’m not retired, I’m unemployed. I see things on Tony Khan’s TV show that appall me. I could help with that. I have been begging him for a job on every platform I can and I want to know the reason why he won’t hire me.”
It remains to be seen if either WWE or AEW are interested in bringing in Road Dogg. He has plenty of history with WWE’s new head of talent relations, Triple H. He’s got a ton of experience and thinks he could help fix some of the problems in wrestling today.
