Since last year, WWE moved away from recruiting indie wrestlers, because they are looking for cross-over athletes they can train hopeful Superstars. This move was met with a lot of concern as well. Triple H and Big E lead the WWE tryouts in Nashville this week as well.
The company does still sign some talent from the independent circuit, but the focus is on scouting attractive college athletes and training them as pro wrestlers. We’ve seen this with the new crop of NXT 2.0 talent, from Bron Breakker to Nikkita Lyons.
WWE is now holding their first set of tryouts in Nashville ahead of SummerSlam. It marks the first tryout since Triple H took over the EVP of Talent Relations role, as well as the head of creative for the company.
It was already reported that independent wrestlers were also invited to the tryouts. As seen in the images uploaded by WWE, Triple H, Paul Heyman and Big E lead the tryouts. We will have to wait and see who will end up being signed this time around.
