WWE was largely a PG-rated product since 2008, as they stopped catering to the TV-14 demographic. Fans were certainly displeased with this change, as they felt the lack of edgy content made the product unbearable. Jim Ross also believes WWE gaining viewers will help AEW.

Vince McMahon’s company got fans very excited when news broke that Raw would be moving from a TV-PG rating to TV-14. However, that initial report jumped the gun, as the source came from a prematurely leaked memo.

While speaking on the “Grilling JR” podcast, Jim Ross talked about WWE going back to TV-14. Ross stated that he believes WWE gaining viewers because of this change will help AEW.

“The more people that watch Raw or SmackDown, believe it or not, helps AEW. Generating interest in pro wrestling, on any platform — what’s that old saying about high tides, all ships? I think that’s where we are here in this scenario. I hope it does well for them.”

WWE SummerSlam is also listed as a TV-14 event. WWE is also not expected to push the TV-14 rating too far. We’ll have to see how the overall product will change in the coming months.
