WALTER had a stellar run in NXT UK as he became the longest-reigning champion in modern WWE as he held the NXT UK Title for a record 870 days. He would lose the title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver 36. He also expected WWE to change his name.

WWE has a habit of changing up talents names for usually no reason whatsoever. That also includes shortening the names of their talents. WALTER was subjected to this as well.

He became Gunther and now it has been a while since the name change. While speaking on the Out of Character podcast, Gunther made it clear he expected WWE to change up his name.

“I guessed it. Walter is my real name. And from the side of the company, it makes a lot more sense if you can actually have some ownership over the name of an athlete that you present or put out there to an audience. So I kinda expected it. But it was fine for me.”

Gunther also had an intense face off with Drew McIntyre recently. We will have to wait and see how he will be booked as the Intercontinental Champion in the coming weeks.
