Vince McMahon’s retirement has left WWE fans with a lot of questions. One fact we do know is that Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan are now the company’s co-CEOs. Another is that Paul Levesque (Triple H) is in charge of talent relations. That still leaves a lot of unknowns as far as WWE’s creative team after Vince called it quits.
Although Vince McMahon stepped down as the company’s CEO as soon as the WWE board of directors announced their investigation into his hush money payments, he remained in charge of creative. McMahon’s retirement means he will no longer be in that position. That leaves a lot of room for speculation about who will be calling the shots as far as booking and writing.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the situation. He believes there will be a power grab that determines who gets the book in WWE. Several potential names could be involved.
“As far as overseeing all creative, that’s a really interesting question. There’s going to be a power grab. Now, tonight’s show was Bruce [Prichard] and Ed Koskey, but Paul Levesque was also there and I guess he was, from what I gather, he was the closest to being Vince McMahon as far as, he was the overseer tonight.
Whether that was because he was there and Stephanie was there… Whether he’s going to be going on the road to these shows every Monday and Friday, that could be asking a lot. But, you know, I mean hopefully, his health is like 100% or as close to 100% as it’s going to be, but that’s still asking a lot, you know, for a guy who, you know, nearly died.”
Triple H would be a natural choice, but given his health issues, it may not be feasible to keep him on the road full-time. Bruce Prichard has been a long-time assistant to Vince McMahon and could help with a smooth transition. Either way, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the top creative force in a post-Vince McMahon version of WWE.
