Rey Fenix suffered an ankle injury during his match on Friday night’s episode of AEW Rampage. The Lucha Bros were taking on Private Party when Fenix took a simple atomic drop. Fenix was seen limping heavily after the match.
That match was taped on Wednesday. Fenix was wrestling again by Friday night. The injury does not appear to be anything severe.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the strange injury. While it looked scary, Rey Fenix is apparently doing just fine. It does not look like he will miss any time.
“It’s funny, because like, Rey Fenix, you know, on the Rampage show. So, the deal with Rey Fenix was that he I guess hurt his ankle taking an atomic drop, which is totally safe, but it just happened, you know. It was a fluke thing. Although, he’s OK. The match was taped Wednesday. He did wrestle Friday, he wasn’t limping Friday, but it was scary. He was limping pretty bad at the end of the match on Wednesday that aired on Friday, and I thought, ‘Oh God, another injury,’ right?
But, he apparently is OK. But there is still… There are so many people hurt in AEW and they do need to change stuff. I don’t know if it means more matches. I don’t know what it means, but something… There’s too many guys getting hurt.”
In January, Rey Fenix suffered a terrible-looking injury to his elbow. After missing some time, he returned faster than anyone thought possible. It would have been a shame to see him on the shelf yet again, especially with so many top AEW stars already out of action.
