During the “Blood and Guts” match on Dynamite a few weeks ago, Proud & Powerful member Santana was injured after delivering a uranage to Daniel Garcia. It was then reported that Santana may’ve suffered a knee injury. Now, it appears Santana’s will be out for the rest of the year.
Fightful’s Sean Sapp reported behind his paywall that Santana sustained an ACL tear during the match and will be out for 8 to 12 months. The report also mentions that AEW has no plans of keeping Santana’s partner, Ortiz, on the bench for the time being.
AEW sources indicated last week that Santana had sustained an ACL injury, which he told several people we spoke to he sustained an ACL injury.
He was at an event in Puerto Rico this weekend to relinquish a title, and was seen on crutches. In addition, we’re told that he let a few people there know that he’d not had surgery yet.
None of this information has been confirmed by AEW, though we did reach out to both they and Santana. As of now, we’re told there are no plans to stop using Ortiz that anyone in AEW has heard about.
Santana’s recovery time aligns with what Chris Jericho had speculated during his appearance on the True Gordie Podcast. Proud & Powerful fans can at least breathe a sigh of relief knowing that AEW won’t forget about Ortiz. Santana is now one of the many wrestlers put on the shelf due to injury.
