Billy Gunn remains one of the most veterans in all of pro wrestling, as fans certainly remember him for his time in DX, among other things. He eventually went to AEW and is now an important figure there. He also has two separate contracts in the company.
The former Bad Ass Billy Gunn is the leader of the Gunn Club in AEW, alongside his sons Colton and Austin Gunn. The pro wrestling legend works as a coach/agent backstage for AEW, but also works as an in-ring talent.
While speaking during a “K & S WrestleFest” virtual signing, the former WWE Superstar revealed that he is under two separate contracts in AEW. This is because backstage personnel are “employees” of the company.
On the other hand, in-ring talent are “independent contractors”, otherwise known as technically self-employed/freelance.
“Yeah, they have to do two contracts because they can’t loop them all together. You can’t loop the employee and talent because it’s, you know, a self-employed kind of deal. So, in reality, yeah, you’d like to just have one contract that says you do different things, but for some reason, you can’t do it that way for business bookkeeping or whatever.”
The Gunn Club turned on The Acclaimed on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. This saddened many fans who warmed up to the two teams’ dynamic. We’ll have to see how their feud will be booked in the coming weeks.
